BUG review
This hostel has accommodation in cabins surrounded by gardens and ponds, with some nice water features. There are heaps of facilities including a swimming pool and spa, tennis court, basketball court and scooter hire. Dorms are a bit plain, but some have their own balconies. The large common room and kitchen are nice. Staff here can be very curt.

I loved the barbecue they made in the evening: a burger (or something else) fresh from the bbq, and a buffet of salads... it was also good that you could rent bikes there, and there is a pool, tennis court and lots of stuff like this...

Hostel accomodation varies between the Drifters Lodge and log cabins. Unless you are travelling as a couple I suggest trying for a bed (yes bed not bunk) in the log cabins. Hervey Bay aside from whale watching trips & Fraser Island is not really a place to spend too much time. Aside from walking to the BoatHarbour there is little to do - so most people would relax beside the small pool. Happy hour in the bar is welcome and there are plenty of games available in the bar to occupy time. Transfers to from the local airport are only $5 and take only 15minutes. - good value flights to Sydney.

My husband and I stayed in a 1 bedroom villa for 3 nights. It was amazing! The villa was fully self-contained and had a well equipped kitchen/living area, separate bedroom and ensuite bath as well as our own parking space out front. We really enjoyed staying here and only wish we could have stayed longer. The staff were friendly and helpful in booking trips whale watching and to Fraser Is. The YHA also had a large common area and restaurant for when we didn't feel like cooking. Best hostel we have ever stayed at by far!

This could arguably be the best hostel in Australia? The staff ACTUALLY care about you, the trips they book are great value and above all, the facilities are excellent. Rooms/showers etc. are cleaned daily by professionals, the restaurant is fantastic and the management look after you extremely well. Don't consider anywhere else.

We found this to be a very nice hostel. Quite a change from the usual, ensuite for no extra cost. It was a bit out of town so it would not be popular for the usual younger backpacker, although there was a regular courtesy bus. It was a delight to have a kitchen that was limited to the number of users and they ALL kept it tidy unlike some other hostels. Their Fraser Island trip was fantastic, the staff were friendly and the restaurant was good value. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

I stayed here and did their package self-drive tour of Fraser Island, and I thought it was great. It feels as if you are on your own little plantation, as there is lots of land that separates you from the road and neighbors. They have a decent sized pool, tennis courts and basketball also. They also loan out the equipment for the games. Overall, I would say it was a fun place in a great looking area.

I suppose the previous reviewer had bad luck, because I had a very nice experience at this hostel. If you're lucky enough to be assigned to their stylish log cabins, it's very spacious and comfortable, with a tv, living room, bath, kitchen and dining area, shared with just a few other people. The other sleeping quarters that they have there are nothing special, just a room in a building.

The common areas are extremely inviting. They have a restaurant that serves cheap decent meals and has a comfortable sitting area where you can just chill and watch tv. They also have a pretty outdoor pool beside their duck pond, and a very talkative pet cockatoo named Freddy.

If you're staying here and plan to go to Fraser Island, I suggest you buy one of their 3-day self-guided 4x4 Fraser Island 4WD safari packages. I paid $175 AUD for mine, which included 2 nights accommodation at the YHA, 2 dinners at the YHA, camping permits, barge transfers to the island, 3 days 4WD rental and camping equipment. You are put in a group of 6-9 people. I had a lot of fun and thought it was a great deal.

Found all the hostels down the east coast to be excellent, that was until we got here. The staff were very rude to us and the food was, when we finally got it, revolting and cold. I'd advise anyone to give this place a wide berth. We moved the next day to another place called Beaches and it was much better - very welcoming and really helpful staff.
