BUG review
Strahan Backpackers is comprised of several cabins with accommodation in small dormitories. It features a common room with a TV and a fully-equipped kitchen plus a courtyard barbecue area. The hostel has a bush setting but is still within walking distance to the town centre. It is not a bad hostel but it is expensive for what you get.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

My partner and I stayed in a double room over labour day weekend. The room wasn't huge, but had a double bed, desk, plus a sofa/day bed with extra bedding and towels in the wardrobe. The toilets and showers are shared by everyone (no en suites available), but were never crowded and seemed to be cleaned every morning. It is no longer a YHA, but is a backpackers/Cosy Cabins, to there were a wide range of people...from younger backpackers to old biker dudes. Our room was part of a cabin split into 3 rooms with separate entrances. You can also get a separate A-frame cabin. I think they have rooms with bunk beds as well. The double room was $65 a night. There are 2 kitchens, both with TVs, and one has a lounge room too, but the couches are falling apart. It is close to the supermarket, but about a 15 minute walk into town. I recommend the World heritage boat cruise, the 4WD bike tour on henty sand dunes, and Banjos for breakfast (all you can eat toast for $1.75).
