BUG review
Brambuck Backpackers is a very nice hostel with good facilities including a large well-equipped kitchen and a large deck with a barbecue at the front of the hostel. Accommodation is in clean rooms with en suite bathrooms. It's opposite the Brambuk Cultural Centre, about 3km from the centre of Halls Gap.

I stayed here 1 night while doing the Groovy Grape Adelaide-Melbourne tour. It was not a bad stop-off point for a night. Can't really comment on things like the kitchen as all our food was prepared by our guide, but the communal area was ok. The dorms were not bad, beds ok, but as they were quite large rooms, having an ensuite bathroom caused more problems than convenience as there was always a queue to go in, especially in a morning when we all had to be up and off.

I doubt many would stay here more than a night or two given the location, and for that purpose its ok.

We stayed in a double room for 5 nights and the ensuite was a blessing. The room was clean and comfortable and the little fridge was handy. There was a well equipped kitchen but the stove was a bit scary to light with matches. The staff were very helpful and relaxed. You could tell they enjoyed working there.

The gardens and verandah were gorgeous. We enjoyed chasing the little skinks outside on the rocks. We had our own car which was useful due to being 3km from town but there is a walking track.

Compared to Tim's Place in Halls Gap (which we stayed 3 nights) Brambuk is larger, noisier (just the OzExp people!) and out of the way of noisy cicadas during summer. Tim's is great if you want stuff to do. It's a cosy, friendly hostel with lots of games and activities. I did enjoy Brambuk more than Tim's Place only because we had more privacy and could relax.

I only stayed here one night on a Groovy Grape tour and I thought the place was okay. The building and landscape are certainly beautiful but I found the staff to be a little unfriendly and irritated. I think they were extra busy that night but still... I was in a large dorm (like 10 people) and there was a bathroom attached - it probably would have been better in a smaller dorm. The lounge is large and there's a big fireplace and television. There's also a coin-operated internet kiosk that's ridiculously expensive and a kitchen with lots of places to sit. The cultural centre is right across the street and definitely worth a look.
