BUG review
This is a small hostel on a quiet residential street that's only a five minute walk to the centre of Sorrento, which is among the nicest towns on the Peninsula. The common areas consist of a small kitchen and dining area with a wood fire and a cosy TV area. It is a clean and well-maintained hostel with a warm friendly atmosphere.

I book a private room at Sorrento YHA with a polite and friendly lady on the phone at the hostel, for $80 over the phone with my credit card number as collateral for the booking confirmation. She told me, it was just to confirm it, not for charging to. So far, so good. I like polite ladys on phones.I arrive there at 3.30pm in the afternoon. A bunch of drunk men approach me in the driveway to ask what I am doing here. I say "I booked a room". They say, "no you didn't, we have it booked out." I explain that I did, I gave a credit card number. There is no one there from the hostel to help me. The least drunk guy rings the hostel owner, who gives me a code, and tells me I am staying in the house next door. So, they firstly lose points for not even having a reception - I wanted to pay cash, but now it seems I have to wear it on my credit card.I get there. My room has no curtains or blinds, it only has a lace curtain thing (like nana used to have in the kitchen), which offers no privacy for getting dressed, and as a consequence, the light woke me at 6.30am. It didn't help that another person staying there got home at 2.30am and spent a drunk 10 mins trying to get in, and I had to get up to help him. From then on, I didn't sleep as the wall was so paper thin, his snoring in the next room kept me from getting back to sleep - that and the knowledge that in a few hours, the light would be waking me up. I could literally hear his signing, breathing, like he was laying next to me. In the shared bathroom, the shower head is held up with a stick (they really need a plumber to visit...). When you turn on the tap, the stick falls down and you spend 5 mins wasting water trying to get it back in it's delicate place. Not a green friendly hostel by any means!I rang the owner today, and politely, very politely (I know the worth of going about customer criticism in the right way - I am not an antagonistic person) inform him about the lack of blind in the room. He tells me no one complains about that sort of thing. I explained that I like to get changed without worrrying if someone is watching. I got the feeling he just wanted to get rid of me, so I told him I would write him a review, just like this. He's ok with me doing that. Didn't really care about my concerns, didn't offer me a $10 discount for the inconvenience. He just wanted to take my money, and hope that I go away.So, up to you, but I would find a motel for $80 in Rosebud/ Blairgowie, or Rye for my money. At least you will have a reception, a private bathroom, and blinds.Thank you to the polite lady on the phone though. Can you please explain to your husband/ business partner, about women and blinds and what "private room" means, and what you should do if someone rings to offer feedback. Hear it, and believe them when they say, "I am going to review you online."
