BUG review
Everything at Warrnambool Beach Backpackers is new and well maintained. There is a good range of facilities including two kitchens, a laundry, a bar and internet access including Wi-Fi ($10 for 3 hours). Guests get free use of mountain bikes, body boards and fishing gear. It is close to the beach but around a 30 min walk from the town centre.

Comfortable and warm double room with ensuite. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely location. 2 July 2009
Pros:
The hostel's location was great. Walking distance to the beach and Flagstaff Hill.
Cons:
The building is a bit old and lacks atmosphere. But there weren't many people there so it WAS quiet.

The staff were very friendly and helpful at this hostel. The building is fairly old but is well maintained. We stayed in a double room and all linen (including fluffy towels) was provided. I found the pillows a bit thin but that's just my preference! There was a good sized common room with couches, tables and chairs. There was a nice TV and lots of board games. Cutlery sets are given to you on arrival and you are responsible for your own set until you leave. This includes a tea towel. There was a bar in the common room and a pool table but everything was quiet when we visted. The kitchen had a nice big fridge. There is free tea and coffee (and milk) in the common room which was wonderful. I didn't cook in the kitchen because we decided to get the dinner and show package at Flagstaff Hill which was great. But the kitchen has a stove and a microwave and all utensils in the cupboards. I thought we'd be cold at night since it's winter but the double room was carpeted and had a heater. The quilt was nice and warm also. The shower was very good and I was surprised to not see a sign up about water restrictions, but maybe everybody knows now to take short showers! A bath mat would have been good and also a shelf or rail in the bathroom. Overall, a great budget place to stay in a nice part of town.

I would have given this hostel five stars as I liked the atmosphere and the tv and bar were more than welcome but for the fact that I was there in the off season and our room was so unbelievably cold. Other than that I have not a single complaint about this hostel, as the staff were friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. The bathrooms were a little rough but nothing completely out of the ordinary.

Top notch hostel, really every facility you need plus a great, huge communal area in which to have a beer from the bar, chill in front of the tv and chat to people. OK, if I am picky, the kitchen could do with another cooker - it was a bit of a joke all crowding round one, but otherwise it was a top place.

Really liked this hostel. Very modern and clean, friendly, big lounge with huge TV, bar, pool table, internet. We asked for a double room and got a huge room with ensuite to ourselves! The only thing was that the walls were thin, so when you get your "party" (ie, get drunk and make lots of noise, gee, how original) people, you can hear it all. Linen was provided.

Only stayed one night as we were on the Great Ocean Road 2 day trip. Had a double room (well more a family room) with ensuite. Nice and quiet. Good facilities, kitchen etc. But we had a Chinese meal delivered which was vey good. Washed down with a beer from the bar. There was a huge TV with movies, also rather expensive internet facilities. But overall, a very pleasant stay. Would certainly recommend it.

The facilities and atmosphere are perfect, and the Beach Backpackers somehow manages to stay quiet and comfy despite the bus load of Oz Experiencers that rock up in the evening. Ideal location, free bikes, and nice people.

This hostel will appeal mainly to homesick travellers who miss a nice room their mum hoovered for them. The place is spotlessly clean, the television set is huge, but the place lacks character bigtime, and the attitude of the owners is somewhat a**** retentative ('please don't use our expensive styrofoam cups for your BYO wine we force you to drink outside because we won't sell our own beer otherwise'). We paid $23 a head to sleep in a 16-bed dorm which got very, very, very warm during the night. It didn't smell pretty in the morning.

Stayed only two nights but it was one of the best hostels ive stayed in. All the facilities were top notch and clean. Had a great time and highly recommend it.
