BUG review
The blue and orange painted Cable Beach Backpackers definitely feels like a party hostel and it is close to the beach making it a good choice in the dry season. Facilities include a spacious kitchen (no oven), a laundry, internet access ($6 one hour, $10 two hours) and a bar with a pool table and huge TV screen plus a swimming pool surrounded by palm trees. Although handy to the beach, it is about 7km to the town centre, but the hostel runs a free shuttle bus into town.

Why does everyone rave about this place?!

I stayed here for what I thought was 1 night but ended up being 2 waiting for some friends to turn up in a camper from darwin.

Although the place was quiet people were not friendly, internet was expensive and you had to pay the same amount for wifi even if you had your own laptop. There is nothing around apart from the beach so you have to pay $3.50 to get a bus back to town to get to supermarket.

The kitchen was the biggest problem, love to know when they last cleaned it out as soon as I opened the fridge door, I could smell it and when I looked at some of the dates on the milk you were looking at jan 2010 and dec 2009 (it is now feb 2010)!

I was also very sick one night which could of been down to my dodgy cooking but also maybe dodgy tap water so that why i had to pay $4 for mineral water - rip off!

If you like the beach and s*it tap water then stay here. If you want to be near shops and supermarkets, airport etc dont!

This was without a doubt my favorite place in Broome. I stayed in two other backpackers in Broome and this was by far the best. The people were great and so friendly it had a real homely feel, even though it was a party place. There staff were fantastic so helpful and friendly and sometimes a little crazy but very funny.

I got along with everyone that stayed there and made friends for life.

Compared to other backpackers in Broome it was not badly priced either.

What more can I say I know I will be back one day for some more Broome time at the Lasty!

I loved the place. I really couldnt fault it. It was about the same price as other places I stayed at and offered good value for money. It was clean and well maintained. They have something special on just about every night either free food (sausage sizzles, hotdogs, steamed rice) or bar games where you can double your order free or chase the ace. The people staying there are genuine backpackers who get into that lifestyle of kicking back and enjoying life for what it is. There is plenty of work in the backpackers and because its surrounded by 5 star resorts there is plenty of work near the backpackers. Dont expect anything glamorous though its simple by design and thats whats nice about it.

I made a booking by phone, and must say the bloke who took my call was friendly. Unfortunately, when I got there, the double private room with airconditioning I had paid $65 per night for three nights was a disaster! There were bamboo blinds on the windows, which offered no privacy whatsoever. When I complained, they gave me beach towels to put up over the blinds! The bed squeaked so loudly it woke me up just to turn over -- and the person next door woke me up doing the same. The A/C was as loud as a jet plane, and the possums fighting/mating on the tin roof were thunderous. The tin dishes I had to rent for $10 were RUSTY, the bathrooms were filthy and covered in hair, the staff were rude when I complained (nicely). In short, I was ready to rent a car and sleep in it just to get out of the place -- there were no other beds in Broome, or I would definately have moved! For $70/night on the Gold Coast, I had a whole one bedroom apartment, fully serviced! Don't go unless you're really young, can sleep through anything, and don't mind totally roughing it.

Lovely holiday resort type atmosphere with friendly staff. Lots of people hanging out at the bar. A mixture of ages and nationalities were staying there. The wonderful thing was I stayed in a single room next to a dorm and was not disturbed by noisy people at all. Beautiful polished floorboards in the main sleeping accommodation building with good sized rooms, and clean linen. Air conditioning works at night time, and the fan always. However you won't be spending time in your room as there is so much to do and see. The backpackers is only about 400m from Cable Beach, so is an easy walk. I highly recommend doing the Hovercraft ride for something fun and different.

Went here after leaving Kimberly Klub. Was definate improvement, but wouldn't be rushing back here either. Staff are so sleazy.

I heard them telling some people who had booked room that they would set up a mattress on floor outside for one of the nights as they had double booked??? Food was stolen from fridge on a few occasions.

We sampled 3 hostels in Broome and out of the 3 i would have to say Cable Beach Backpackers have the most Arrogant staff, who for some reason seem to think they are god's gift to women!!!! The Kitchen is impossible to cook in, the rooms are dark and dingy and the bathrooms are filthy!! It is however close to the beach but when other hostels in town offer free shuttle buses to the beach.....why bother?!

This hostel rocks!!!!

When I first arrived in Broome I stayed in the town YHA NEVER AGAIN. I rang Cable beach backpackers and they came straight over and picked me up. I got a four bed dorm for a great price and the staff were just the friendliest people I have met. I was travelling on my own and I thought like in most places it would be a few days before I met anyone - this is not the case at CBB straightaway I was made to feel at home and it really helped that the staff remember your name (that is everyones name I really dont know how they do it). By th end of the first night at CBB I knew it was going to take alot for me to leave. I had intended on staying for three days but in the end it was about a month before I left.

Everynight there was something to do (but there is enough space at the backpackers to have a quiet night in. Lounging in the hammocks is a popular passtime for many. I prefer the sausage sizzles and dvd nights myself. The staff are the best if you can organise people to go out on a night into town they will ferry you there in the bus. This hostel is not too far from town. The only reason you need to go to town is for food shopping and

the hostel put on a free bus to town throughout the day, what more do you want. There is a pub walking distance to the hostel which rocks more than most in the town and the worlds most beautiful beach is a stone throws away. But if you would rather be nearer to coles supermarket that is your choice!!

I loved this place - and would also recommend the fishing trips they pub on on a weekly basis the best value for money trip I have ever been on. This hostel has it nailed!!!

Cable beach backpackers is the best backpackers I have stayed in in Oz. The staff are friendly and personal. They know everyone by name, which is impressive. The atmosphere around the hostel is laid back and as a backpacker, travelling on my own, I found it really easy to meet other people. They have their own bar with specials on every evening. They also do freebies at various stages over the week e.g. free rice, popcorn, sausage sizzle, pizza.

Another big bonus is that it is the only backpackers in Broome that is located beside the amazing cable beach. The backpackers provide a free bus to and from the town at various stages over the day. They also do free pick ups to and from the airport.

It has a big kitchen. Rooms and bathrooms are cleaned daily

Anyone that has a good time in Broome has stayed at Cable beach backpackers. It's the sort of place that you go to for a week and end up ataying months. I've yet to find a place that lives up to my time at Cable Beach Backpackers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved it! The staff were great. The place was clean and well maintained. You can see they do this on a ongoing basis as there was lots of new stuff and they were painting at the time i was there and constantly cleaning. It had all the creature comforts TV, DVDS big screen TV Lounge chairs hammocks ,lots of free stuff (sausage sizzles, rice..), bikes, sufboards etc Very social and relaxed atmosphere, bar with cheap beers, easy to meet people - I felt at home. Close to the best beach I have ever seen, walked down to see the sunset and have a beer just about every day. Read the other reviews I didnt think it was too far out of town, I stayed in Town and thought it was too far from the beach anyway they run a free bus in 5x a day. Highly recommend it! Plus it was cheaper than the town backpackers all in all great value.
