BUG review
There’s a great atmosphere at Bay Lodge YHA and some guests find it hard to leave, overall this is one the better hostels on the Gascoyne Coast. Accommodation is in self-contained units with up to 12 people sharing a kitchen, bathroom and TV lounge. There is also a nice outdoor common area where you can laze about in a hammock by the swimming pool. The hostel operates a free shuttle bus to the dolphins at Monkey Mia.

The dorm I stayed in here was minuscule, and the other residents' belongings were strewn all over the place. My mattress had an enormous dip in the middle and some strange brown stains on it. The fridge in the shared kitchen (shared between 3 dorms) didn't keep anything cool, and the bathroom (also shared) was really messy. The Internet was so slow as to be barely worth bothering with.On the plus side :-), the atmosphere was quite good, and the messiness was arguably a product of the other residents rather than the hostel itself. The owners are friendly and have good contacts with Leon from Shark Bay Safaris, who easily does the best tours of the area. There's also a free shuttle bus to Monkey Mia each morning, but the return one doesn't run until 4PM.Shark Bay must be seen if you are in this part of WA, so if you have to stay here then so be it - the sights outweigh the so-so state of the hostel.
Pros:
Motel type facilities, friendly, helpful staff
Cons:
Could be maintained a little better

I stayed in a single room that had great facilities; ensuite, tv, fridge and microwave. John, the manager, has organised with the local pearl farmers a unique activity for backpackers. This is to go out and work on the pearl farm for a day. It costs only $5 to cover the insurance. They pick you up in the morning and take you over to Monkey Mia, where you'll probably see the dolphins visiting. They take you out in their boat to the pontoon and you'll do a couple of hours of light work. They supply morning tea, and you down tools when the real tourists come out for their tour and join with them. After the tourists leave you have a big long lunch break and then the boys will take you out in the boat for a ride to see what marine life you can spot, like turtles and sharks. After that it is a couple more hours of light work and then they take you back. It was a full day, and very interesting.

I've stayed in many hostels all over the world but this has to be one of the best. We stayed here for 5 nights last July. The English Couple who run the place were fantastic and the dorm rooms were great too. The dorm rooms are more like 2 bedroom appartments with tv, cooking, great kitchen, sofa etc what more can you ask for and there is more. You have got a BBQ out side, swimming pool, games and Monkey mia is not very far away either!!

This hostel consists of a series of modern, very smart cabins which come with bedrooms, lounge and kitchen area, as well as bathroom of course. There is a TV, sofas, you name it. Very good value for the price, good location in Denham. My only complaint was that the cabins were kept single sex which was a bit pathetic when a group were on a tour together yet got separated because of this, yet grouped up with strangers instead, but then thats the YHA for you!

Stayed here for 2 nights in Jan 2004. Owner very friendly and helpful. Everything immaculately clean. Cooking area, room, swimming pool, bedlinen and towels in first class condition. Excellent. The beach directly opposite. Couldn't fault it and highly recommend it to anyone.
