BUG review
Kalbarri Backpackers is a relatively clean and well maintained hostel with good facilities that include the usual kitchen, laundry and TV lounge plus a barbecue area and swimming pool. Most dorms have en suite bathrooms. Guests can rent bicycles and snorkelling gear. With around 100 beds it is a relatively large hostel for a small town and it feels a bit impersonal.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.
Price Dorm bed $25 ($23 HI/YHA) Double/twin room $65 ($60 HI/YHA) Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
It's very pleasant here. The rooms are spacious and clean and have an ensuite. The bathrooms are old but clean. The TV lounge and dining area inside are quite small. The BBQ area is very good. Lots of wooden benches, and the staff were very friendly.
Although the dorm was rather big (~10beds) it was airy and clean. It had an ensuit bathroom but I'm not sure whether that is positive as it is of course noisier having the loo/shower right there next to your bed.
Nice BBQ aerea with wooden tables and benches.
Overall very average.

I don't know if there are any other hostels in Kalbarri, but this is a good place to stay anyway. The staff are extremely helpful. The dorm had lots of space, but of the 2 dorms I saw neither had en suite, so I'm not sure if the BUG review is correct on that score. I also think there was only 1 shower on the top floor. Someone stole my cheese slices from the fridge, but I didn't hear of any other thefts so I'm assuming that was a one-off. The TV in the common room didn't have SBS, which forced people to go to one of the pubs for the World Cup.The atmosphere in the hostel was good and, with it being the first stop on the Perth->Darwin route for most backpackers, you're quite likely to make friends here who you'll keep bumping into all the way up the coast. I'd stay here again.

I also stayed at Tudor caravan park and it was so much cheaper and cleaner , although harder to organize tours from caravan park , Tudor caravan park is our choice with no other backpackers in town , Kalbarri is so beautifull

I have one major question about this place ; why did all the girls get a nice en-suite room, when the guys had to share one shower and toilet at the end of the corridor ?The kitchen is poor, and there are even bedrooms just off the TV lounge which isn't fair on those trying to sleep if people are watching TV.

The hostel is well positioned and at reception there are a number of different tours you can make. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Good outdoor bar-b-que and swimming pool. Frequented by tour buses so can be noisey first thing in morning but generally a very good place to stay

Kalbarri Backpackers has excellent location near the beach and just abt 5 min walk to the convenience store. The backpackers also had a tour desk with long list of activities we could book. Staff were friendly and helpful.
