BUG review
Pacific Coast Backpackers is a big, silver-and-blue purpose-built hostel with good accommodation and facilities. There’s an excellent kitchen and big dining area, a cosy TV lounge with books and a separate room for reading and internet surfing. A back patio has a barbecue and a few small tables. Rooms are clean and well-maintained and wall murals with nature scenes give the place a bit of atmosphere. Bikes and body boards are free for guests to use. There’s also free pick up and drop off at the Mount Maunganui information centre.

Wow I can't believe that people actually liked this place. I though it wasn't that nice, the kitched and games room were a mess, the owners have a smelly dog that runs all over the place. Basically the facilities aren't very good and really need a good refresh. However ever dark cloud has a silver lining, the staff are pretty good and very helpful.

Hostel manager's right of reply

I cannot believe that a guy like 'KiwiRob' can review a hostel he obviously hasn't stayed at. We have owned the hostel for more than 3 years and never had a pet of any kind, I think that says it all. We have a first class hostel and facilities and should 'KiwiRob' ever visit Mount Maunganui we would be only too happy to show him around.

stayed here for a few days recently and highly recommend it. Murray the owner is pretty mad but a total character and really cares about making your stay a good one. Has a really personal feel to it.

they also have a good deal for swimming with dolphins-$99 and you get 2 nights free accomadation with them. The company they use is one in town which looks like the best one. It's on a proper sail boat with a real old sea dog called Butler. If you don't see dolphins you can go again another day for free so allow a couple of days here.

Mount is nice as well with a wixked long sandy beach and ncie walks up the Mount. Hot salt water pools at the bottom are vey nice especially at night.
