BUG review
The Beach House is the kind of place you arrive at and just say “ahhh…” Forget TV or internet – there isn’t any – just check out the views over the beach metres away. Go surfing, fishing or swimming, or lie around and do nothing. This is a cute little place 4km outside Opotiki, decorated with beach house décor – driftwood and shells and the like. It’s clean and has just 12 beds. There’s a kitchen, a lounge with books, a couple of sun decks, a barbecue and table football. The owners are very friendly, and the atmosphere is absolutely relaxed.

This was the best place I have ever been to in my life. Stayed here for new years 2004/2005 Steve knew every one by name, even if you had only been there one night. If you are ever there at New Years walk down the beach and meet the locals and join in their bonfires. Steve and his wife are great and their baby is so beautiful.

A fantastic wooden beach house on a secluded, deserted white-sand beach in the Bay of Plenty. Steve & his wife have built a modest but beautiful oasis of chill on the beach with a stunning verandah where you can breakfast and just relax in the hammock reading a book. Quite literally one of the best backpackers I have stayed in not only in NZ but also throughout my travels worldwide. You will be tempted to stay longer than you planned believe me.

A really special place, Steve and his wife are awesome people, made me feel really welcome. The hostel is extremely well furnished, great kitchen, heaps of games & activities, comfortable beds, good heating. Excellent on every level.

for no obvious reason, he who arrives Steve's beach house cannot be anything but relaxed, happy and untroubled.

Steve, a wonderful person, built a wonderful isolated hostel on the beach, with such a unique and special atmosphere that makes you forget the minor things in life (such as time). the great hospitality, the wooden rooms, the sandy beach and the simplicity of things make your staying so pleasant you wouldn't want to leave the place.
