BUG review
Hunters Backpackers is located inside the Royal Hotel, on Opotiki’s main street. The Hunters Bar and Lounge downstairs is quite nice and modern; however, the hotel itself is old and unevenly restored. Some rooms and common areas have been renovated, but most of it when we visited had a dated and musty feel, with furnishings from a bygone era. There really isn’t much of a hostel feel here; the rooms are generally small and there’s not much in the way of common space: a small sitting room with mismatched furniture, a small kitchen and dining table and a balcony out front. It’s definitely looking to become more of a hotel than hostel.
