BUG review
This is a dark, strange and dispiriting place right near the entrance to the Whakarewarewa thermal village. There’s more of a doss house feel here than an ordinary hostel, and the entire place feels neglected. It’s set around a small courtyard full of plants and little cacti. There’s a small balcony out front, internet access on a single PC and free bikes for guests to use. But the only possible reason to stay here would have to be the price, or if everywhere else in town was full.

About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.

We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

This hostel quite clearly discriminates against Canadians and people of Asian descent by unjustly banning them from residence during the SARS scare.
