BUG review
Occupying a pair of houses on Amohau Street, Spa Lodge is one of the smaller hostels in Rotorua, with 42 beds. The houses are old and badly in need of an exterior paint job. Things are in somewhat tidier shape on the inside, but the hostel is still generally quite worn. There is a geothermal-heated pool in the paved courtyard and there are two kitchens, a small TV room and a lounge with a few coin-operated internet PCs. A backpacker-scrawled wall near the entrance makes for some fairly interesting reading. Seagulls like to congregate on the roof of the shopping centre across the road and make a racket at dusk.

About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.

We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

I stayed there several times in 2002 and liked it very much. good facilities. good prices even for doubles.

walking distance to shops and pubs.

best thing were the friendly owners!

We had a good time together, talking and drinking...(they invited us for beer...)

I really enjoyed the spa pool...

I would highly recommend this place!!!
