BUG review
This hostel is looking a little tired. The bright pink cottage-like exterior is inviting, but inside it is a bit drab. Amenities include two tiny kitchens and a small new outdoor kitchen; clean and well maintained bathrooms; a small common room with a nice sofa and a fireplace plus an outdoor area with a gazebo. Accommodation is in colourful dorms with wooden bunks with thin mattresses.

We enjoyed all the aspects of an excellent backpacker in Chez La Mer. Sarah was great with tips of things to do in Akaroa. Located on the main street, making it walking distance to most other attractions. Complete with facilities e.g. kitchen, laundry and dryer. There was a hot water bottle and oil column heater provided in our room. Lovely garden and outdoor benches/hammock to rest on. It was great to have free use of mountain bikes too.

The bedroom is cosy to retire for the day and the bathrooms are so clean! But when night fell, the pub next door was a bit noisy as our room was in front (near the pub). Woke up to free fresh brewed coffee the next day

Planned to spend a night and instead stayed a week. The town is really quaint and the hostel is clean, with a fantastic garden. The owners were really helpful and even had a BBQ for everyone.

Based in the pleasant town of Akaroa this is a place to relax. It is a clean but homely hostel with nice helpfull hosts. THe athmosphere is really friendly and the beautifull garden is a perfect place to take it easy. It is not a big hostel so make a reservation because it is normaly booked. The facilities are good as well, as a guest you can even use the mountenbikes for free. As a whole this is one of the better hostels in New Zealand considering location, athmosphere and facilities.
