BUG review
Le Gite is a lovely little hostel in a cottage two minutes’ walk to town. It is warm and cosy, and smartly decorated. Dorms have only three or four single made-up beds, and each is painted in nice colours and has a bedside light. There is a quaint kitchen and TV lounge with sofas, books and a log fire where you can use the internet (including Wi-Fi). There is a nice outdoor veranda with a new barbecue. It is a simple, but clean and comfortable place to stay.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.
Price Dorm bed $25 ($22 BBH) Double/twin room $54-66 ($50-60 BBH) Prices are in New Zealand dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
While Le Gite is cozy and clean and the videos of muscials are a nice touch, the owners live there too so we felt as if we were invading their space. We certainly would not feel comfortable cooking there

I stayed in Le Gite for one night in April 2003 and wish I could have stayed longer - it's a gorgeous family run hostel in their own house. The owners are so friendly and you are effectively living with them as you share their kitchen, living room etc. Didn't want to leave!!
