BUG review
This hostel is right in the centre of town, next to the Adelphi Bar and Restaurant. It is in an old hotel with plenty of character. There is a huge TV lounge with log fire and pool table; a large fully-equipped kitchen; a spa pool and a rooftop garden with a barbecue, hammocks and great views. The dorms are spacious and comfortable. They have internet access, including Wi-Fi ($6 per hour); although it is slightly cheaper across the street at Global Gossip. It has a great central location and a good atmosphere. Reception staff are friendly and each night, they serve free vegetable soup.

The staff at the Adelphi were absolutely fantastic - very friendly and always there to help. The room was exceptionally tidy. They even were giving away free soup at 6pm each night! Now that's kiwi hospitality for you!

You couldn’t get a better location to town that the Adelphi. We had a selection of cafes/restaurants and the beach within 3 mins walk!

I only stayed there one night.

The kitchen is OK and so was the dorm I stayed in, but I saw another 6-bed dorm which needed some paint and could have been better maintained.

The deco is a bit special. You need to get used to it.

I planned on staying for 1 night but ended up staying 4. Everything about the place was fantastic. Great staff, really cosy place, and you are made to feel at home. A lot of hostels in NZ are really commercial and stale, but Adelphi was heads above the rest. Free soup & bread at night, Big screen TV & huge video collection. But the staff are what make the place what it is. Thanks heaps. I'll be back
