BUG review
This tiny hostel on the Esplanade is tucked behind the owners’ house. It is quiet and simple, which could be perfect for some, but boring for others. It has and several dorm rooms, a good kitchen, a laundry, internet access, a barbecue and a quiet lounge that is more of a reading room as there is no TV. Guests have free use of bicycles. Everything is a bit old, but it is kept quite clean.

I was quite blown away by the cleanliness of this place. Everything down to the kitchen utensils were sparkling clean. The rooms all look pretty standard. Rooms cannot be locked from outside but there are safe deposit boxes available, at a small charge. Kitchen and dining are a reasonable size with not much of a lounge. Definitely a well-kept place but could have more character to it

The cottage hostel must be one of the cosiest in New Zealand. The rooms are immaculately cleaned, and the beds comfortable. A large kitchen is there to use, and even wine glasses are supplied! Diana, your hostess, gladly picks you up from the bus or train station. Information is readily at hand on the local facilites in Kaikoura.Whilst some people might wish for a television in the hostel, the fact that there is not one, promotes the polite use of conversation. The beach, and swimming pool are directly over the road, and Diana's muffins are lovely.A highly recommended stay
