BUG review
This hostel is in a big white building with a million-dollar view of the bay, town and the mountains. Dorms and common areas are excellently clean, but the kitchen and bathrooms could use (and will soon get) an update. Amenities include the standard laundry, internet access and a barbecue area. There is a quiet but convivial atmosphere here and the management and staff are very outgoing and friendly.

This hostel is too far from town so if you've not got a car then i wouldn't recommend it. On the plus side, it has fine views and is clean. Not much atmosphere though i'm afraid and is more expensive than other options in Kaikoura.

We had a double at the back of the hostel, so no sea view - could just see a white cliff face - but the facilities are great, the place is very clean and the staff friendly. Loads of information and maps up on the corridor walls. From the dining area there's an amazing view back along the peninsular to the Kaikoura Range of mountains. The only drawback is that you are a long way out from the centre of town - it's a 25 to 30 minute walk along the seafront to the shops and cafes and it can get windy! Do go on a whale watching trip - we were sick as dogs on the boat (I did say it got windy) but saw three whales and had tears in our eyes as the third one dove. Seems that trips earliest in the day (ours was 6.15am!) are least likely to be called off due to adverse conditions.
