BUG review
This is the closest you’ll get to feeling like home in Tekapo. The small hostel is comprised of three buildings and offers a warm and cosy lounge and a large, well equipped kitchen. Accommodation is in heated rooms with single comfortable beds. There are nice gardens surrounding the hostel.

We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

Great little hostel - classic, dry humoured owner, relaxing atmosphere. I have been here three times in six years and it has been the same every time. Sad to report that the mad cat has shuffled off this mortal coil though

Tailor Made Backpackers is one of those places you just want to go back to. I´ve been to NZ several times and going to Tekapo is just great when you get a bit of "roadburn". Lake Tekapo is just enough off the beaten track to let you ease off a bit and get your bearings. At the same time the area has a lot of activities within easy reach, both for the active and the more laidback. The weather in the area is normally sunny and nice even if the rest of the south is cold and rainy. Mike and Wilma allways make you feel welcome at the backpackers and there is allways a helping hand if it´s needed. I know it´s a silly and overused term but the backpacker really IS a "home away from home".
