BUG review
Eastender Backpacker is set on a horse and sheep farm, and has a few basic eight-bed bunkhouses and some cabins. The East As bus stops here, and activities are set up to cater to groups of travellers – there are sheep-shearing demonstrations and bone-carving lessons and you can also go horse trekking. The big shearing shed also holds a games room with a pool table and table tennis. There’s a basic kitchen and TV room, and an outdoor fireplace and barbecue. It’s a rustic place but it’s pretty clean and is guaranteed a regular crowd a few times a week thanks to the bus.

Stayed recently Aug 2004 for what was supposed to be 1 night. Enjoyed the people and the place so much I sayed another. The accomodation is clean and the setup caters for everyone. Beautiful scenery from the cook house door, a few quiet ones around the outside fire followed by a scenic horse ride the following day to catch the sunrise with amazing veiws...........Ventured into the native bush 5 minutes away to pig hunt with local guide and climbed to the top of a ridge to photo a snow caped Hikurangi in the distance. Returned to the homestay for a hot shower a drink and a hangi with the locals......this is the life. No traffic noise just the sound of the waves and nature...........I have travelled all over NZ............This place is a gem.

I've stayed at Eastender Farmstay in 2003 and found it a fantastic experience. The people are nice, there's lots of awesome activities like horse riding, quad biking, bone carving and possum/pig hunting. You can catch the sunrise and your the first in the whole wide world. The farm is easy going and runned by Maori operators who like to tell about their culture. When your lucky you experience some of the culture yourself!
