BUG review
Sunrise Lodge is the closest hostel to East Cape, about a 45-minute drive to the lighthouse. It’s just a basic house, set among tall grass and toitoi plants, with direct access to the beach close by. It sleeps up to eight, with a four bed dorm and a couple of private rooms, and has a small kitchen and TV lounge. It’s clean and tidy, but a little frilly and it feels a bit dated. A little deck has very nice views over the beach and ocean; in the winter months the sun rises directly over the horizon, making the view even more spectacular, and giving the Sunrise Lodge a reasonable claim for being the first hostel in the world to see the sun rise.
