BUG review
Set high up on a hill overlooking Tokomaru Bay, Brian’s Place likes to say that it’s the first hostel in the world to see the sun rise. We’re not geographically astute enough to verify this claim, but a look at the map says it’s plausible. In any case, the view is absolutely stellar up here, and the hostel itself is friendly and full of a rough charm. Accommodation includes a downstairs dorm in the main house, as well as a couple of great little two – and three-bed sleeping lofts with sweet views. There are small standalone doubles on the property, as well as space for tents. A nice open kitchen is available for guests and the common/TV room is really cosy and rustic. Brian, the friendly owner, has been at it for a while and knows what he’s doing. He can arrange fishing charters, horse treks and will take guests possum hunting in the evenings. It’s a lovely place.

Brians Place is a small and cosy hostel on a hillside close to the ocean with all the basic comforts.

I stayed there ten years ago and remember with warm thoughts the evening we spent with the hosts in the lounge having dinner together... Hope to return one day!
