BUG review
If you can forgive the bad pun for a name (or even better, if you don’t get the reference to a 1970s US television character), this is a clean and well-maintained hostel right in the centre of Napier. There are a pair of common lounges; a small one downstairs with a piano, and a much larger with a big TV and pool table, along with the usual games and books. A small outdoor deck has a barbecue and a picnic table, and there a couple of kitchens. Internet and Wi-Fi access are available as well. The building doesn’t have the great Art Deco façade of some others in Napier, but it dates from that era and has some nice interior spaces.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

We stayed here 3 days in November and then a week in January and it was great! This is a family run business and it shows. They are so helpful! They know the area well and are full of information on places to go! It is in walking distance to everything in town and the visitors center. It is also very clean!!! If you come to Napier, you must stay here!
