BUG review
Portside Inn is a large property in the portside suburb of Ahuriri. Part of it was converted from an old restaurant/bar, which houses the common areas and kitchen. Most accommodation is in a separate purpose-built building. Rooms here are clean and in good shape; the shared facilities, however, are neglected and worn-out. The common room is big and open, with a pool table, table tennis, and dumpy, second-hand furnishings. There’s outdoor seating in the front that looks out onto the road, and courtyard area with a barbecue. There’s not really any character to the place. It’s close to the shops and restaurants by the Ahuriri waterfront, but isn’t convenient without your own transport.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.
