BUG review
Wally’s Backpackers is a pair of 1920s wooden villas (plus a cottage) on a quiet street behind Napier’s Art Deco cathedral. It’s right in the middle of town, a five-minute walk to either the sea or the city centre, but it’s set back from the street and feels nicely secluded. Rooms and facilities are very clean; there’s an excellent, full kitchen, and a nice outdoor patio shaded by vines and fruit trees. The property is bounded by a big lush hill and other native growth, which adds to the feeling of being out of the city. Off-street parking is a plus for this area as well. Overall, Wally’s is an elegant and well-located hostel.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.
