BUG review
Station Lodge is open all year round and during the winter ski season and is generally known as the first place to fill up in Ohakune. Beds are mainly taken up by skiers travelling together in groups, so it doesn’t strictly have a backpacker feel. The hostel is located in a big house on the Junction end of town, right next to the actual train station. Rooms are clean and fairly cosy, and the facilities are basic, though well looked after. A kitchen and TV lounge with pool table are available, as are an outdoor spa pool and drying room. Prices are the lowest in town for ski season. The owners also operate one of the most popular and cheapest ski shops in Ohakune next door.

About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.

We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.
