BUG review
The Villa is a nice hostel with a good atmosphere. It is comprised of several houses and incldues a fully-equipped kitchen, a dining room with a big wooden table and a quiet lounge with a fireplace. There is also a TV lounge but this is away from the main common areas. Outside there is a garden area and a spa pool.

I stayed for 2 nights in winter. They had free apple crumble with ice cream in the evening, which was quite nice.

Dorm clean, TV room OK but the videos are really bad. Good kitchen with lots of utensils.

Free bikes, spa.

I would stay there again.

Stayed here for 1 night, had a double room with TV en suite with own staircase up to room so own balcony which was cute. Nice and clean. Kitchen was a bit overcrowded could have just been bad timing though, but the bench to sit on didnt seem to be big enough for everyone. Had a spa though I didnt use it, dorms looked pretty ok. Good location not right on the main drag but near enough. Allowed to leave bag before picking it up later on which was good. Computer in hallway didnt work but cheap internet access 1 block away in main town so that didnt matter. Seemed to be more of a younger crowd than others i stayed at with a couple of magic bus girls (I asked to avoid the magic / kiwi experience types but I didnt mind 2 girls being there as I didnt bump into them!!) but that was ok, nothing too roudy.

Stayed in The Villa for 1 night in Dec 2005. Good location that was about it. Got a double room for NZ$57 that had a sink and a TV. Room needed to be done up, stains on carpet and the window frames were dirty, cob webs, dead bugs etc. The mattress on the bed was very worn, could put up with that but the bed covers need to be replaced, dirty and covered in other peoples hair. May have been unlucky and got the bad room. Did not use the kitchen. They had parking available outside on the road. I would not stay here again.

I stayed at the villa for a 2 night stay to enjoy the tranquility and calm of Picton. Picton has a very chilled out atmosphere and a GREAT Irish bar (not the usual theme but a lovely bar run by an Irish connected couple). The hostel, although not the cheapest, is well equiped and has a great atmosphere and helpful staff.

In Picton, as a portal between North and south, you will meet travellers with stories and advice of where to go and where not to go in both Islands.

Don't forget to ask the staff for advice and see the very well behaved hostel cats and dogs (who you can walk if you want).

the best hostel I visited in the whole of New Zealand.

This was a great hostel with lots of character - friendly and helpfulo staff and great guests - made us feel right at home. Don't forget to pop next door to the austrian bakery for their awesome breakfast foods!

A bit more pricey than other options but you do get breakfast included. You won't regret spending a few extra dollars because this place is so nice. Beautiful touches like fairy lights in the garden, hammocks and a hot tub. Fantastic front and backgarden full of flowers. Nice kitchen, relaxed atmosphere and good communal rooms. Wash basin in room too. Free pick up from ferry (although it is very near anyway!). This place soon gets booked up so definately book ahead.

I was really made to feel at home here! There's friendly, helpful staff, hot spa, lots of social areas, a DVD room, a cat, and of course, hot apple crumble and ice cream every night. Best value hostel I found in NZ. Loved it.

A good feeling hostel with atmosphere. Both young (mostly) and old (us) will enjoy. Clean, with some nice touches to make you feel at home. Handy to everything. Friendly staff.

This was by far and away the best place we have stayed in. Our double room was great, with a boutique B & B feel. Little touches like sprigs of lavender on the towels, a mosquito net and trad window treatments gave it a romantic feel befitting a gracious old villa of this type. Our own small television, writing desk and wash basin made it feel even more special. So nice in fact that we forgot we were in backpackers accommodation surrounded by people making noodle dinners!!!
