BUG review
This is a quaint 13-bed hostel with a good amount of charm. It has a small but well equipped kitchen, a cosy TV lounge with a log fire, and a simple outdoor common area. The dorms have thick mattresses and duvets, and though they are small, they are cared for. Bathrooms are very nicely maintained with good showers, and there are nice polished wood floors. It has a very quiet atmosphere and the management are friendly.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

Don't have any complaints about Shortbread Cottage. The cookies were brilliant, went straight to the hips. The hostel is really small, very clean and cosy. The kitchen is clean and extremely well-equipped. The common room is comfortable as well, with lots of puzzleworld games. (which I secretly hate by the way, because I cannot solve them all!) The rooms are really comfortable and warm at night (oil heaters, hot water bottles are lovely). Felt very much like home. Nelson is pretty too.
