BUG review
This is a colourful and clean hostel with a good amount of character. It features a cosy lounge with nice artwork and log fireplace, a large kitchen, and a small outdoor garden and common area. It is laid-back but cheery. The dorms are spacious with single beds, freshly painted walls and bedside lamps. The bathrooms are very clean, and they offer internet access and a laundry. The reception staff are nice; every night they offer guests free chocolate pudding and ice cream.

Loveliest hostel in NZ! So warm, friendly, clean and stylish..staff could not do enough for you. Free choc pudding every night and breakfast in morning. Rooms are really well maintained and cosy. Took my idea of hostelling to whole new level

I stayed 4 nights on my own and 2 with my partner and found the hostel to be OK. The staff were friendly, there is a good size communal living room, water is hot. However, when I was staying there was also a large group staying so there was no space in the kitchen, no utensils or cutlery free (try eating spaghetti with a plastic spoon!) , and the staff spent the evening talking to them rather than being available to help. The rooms were freezing cold, and despite having a nice log fire, I only saw this lit once. They advertise free chocolate pudding in the winter, which isn't bad, and also free breakfast in the winter, but this can just be a couple loaves of cheap supermarket bread! Not really worth staying for. I stayed at the Bug backpackers on Vanguard street for the next 10 days and it was 100 times better!

We had a quality stay here, staff are friendly, lots of free stuff, each night somethings free like popcorn and beer or ice-cream and hot choccie, soup, etc which is good as it gets everyone int the main living area where there are loads of comfy sofas and a log fire.

the kitchen is great, so clean and big with free cookin oil, salt, pepper, tea, coffe, herbs from the herb garden, u get the picture.

we cant see why anyone wouldnt enjoy a stay here!!!

Stayed 2 nights there in winter, when they have a free breakfast in the morning with home-made bread, cereals, toasts and anything you can think of. They also have free nightly specials (we had chocolte and banana cake and apple crumble).

This place is clean and quiet. It takes around 20 minutes to walk to town.

Well set-up hostel. Lovely atmosphere. Not a party place. Lots of seating areas, both indoors and outdoors, encourages people to mix.

the hostel has really good bathroom/kitchens and no t.v (which is always a bonus). but the lack of t.v didn't help the sociability, the place is very comfortable but it lacks any atmoshpere and character and is a fair way from the town. Definitely suited to one nighters

Georgie and staff run a comfotable and friendly hostel, are very helpful, and the ammenities are spotless with plenty of room. Meant to stay one night but stayed five. Both young and old will feel at home here (we being the old ones!)
