BUG review
Kiwiana is an intimate hostel with good facilities. Dorms are small but well maintained, and bathrooms are sparkling clean. There is a pleasant garden and a cosy lounge with TV, pool table, table tennis, internet access ($6 per hour), some guitars and a log fire. They also have laundry facilities, a nice spa pool on the deck and guests have free use of bikes. The kitchen could use a renovation, but otherwise it is a homely, clean place with friendly management. It is just a few minutes’ walk to the main street.

We picked this backpackers because all the reviews said that it was very clean. And so it was - immaculate. It also turned out to have an easy-going atmosphere, character, good facilities, a good kitchen, a beautiful garden, comfortable outdoor area, and is within easy walking distance of the town centre. There are also free bikes for those wanting to go further than the shopping area. Jules, the owner, couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful, and her well-trained dog adds to the ambience of the place.

Jules the owner is typically laid back and representative of the area. She lets you feel right at home and has equipped the hostel well with separate lounge and games room, away from the sleeping area, so quiet nights on comfortable beds ensured.

Great place for an alternative honeymoon.
