BUG review
Greenhouse Backpackers is in a former schoolhouse and walking in is very likely to trigger some memories (whether good or bad). It’s a unique environment, at the very least. The TV lounge/common area is in one former classroom, with a colourfully-decorated chalkboard on the wall and primary-school bright colours all around. Dorms beds are in another big classroom. There are no bunks; single beds are arranged around the room, partitioned off into small groups. Internet access is available, and there’s a small outdoor area out the back with a barbecue.

We travelled in New Zealand for one year and we got to know a lot of lovely backpackers over there, but all in all there was one very special backpacker my friends and I stayed in, called the Greenhouse Backpackers in Dargaville.

The best ever hospitality and unbelievable kindness of the hosts made us feel like being in a wonderful family.

The way we were treated was just devine. There was trust between us from the very first beginning and we felt like being at home.

Leaving this backpacker was really hard for us.

For us it is the best packpacker of New Zealand!

I stayed here in November 2003 when I went down to Melbourne for the Melbourne Cup. We arrived late on Thursday night and were informed that our room which we had booked back in May and confirmed 2 days prior to our arrival had now been cancelled because of our late arrival. We were very annoyed at this and were informed by one member of staff that it was not her problem and that there are no guarantees when booking this hostel which we found astounding. When we expressed our dissatisfaction we were later told by the receptionist that she would appreciate an apology for the manner in which we spoke to her and she never offered us any type of apology whatsoever. In the end the room was sorted out and we stayed for a very pleasant four nights except for the dirty looks thrown at us every time we entered reception. The hostel itself is probably one of the best I have ever stayed in, it is clean, spacious, has plenty of facilities, excellent kitchen, tv area and games room. It is central in that everything is within walking distance pretty much and security is excellent with passes required to get onto your floor. I would be giving this hostel five stars if it were not for the disappointing staff who seem to have very little mass or time for travellers
