BUG review
Pirates Backpackers is part of an old hotel that’s been partially renovated. From the outside, it’s eye-catching; the entrance is sleek and black and the attached bar/restaurant, Nero, is probably the most glamorous place in a decidedly un-posh town. The inside is a mixed bag, however. Some rooms seem like they’re straight out of a time capsule from 1964, with fuzzy chairs, garish bedspreads and wallpaper and ancient television sets. Carpeting throughout the backpacker wings is pretty psychedelic, too. Kitchen facilities are adequate, as is a TV lounge (although it also has the furry shag chairs). Wireless internet is also available (10c per Mb; Zenbu). A small outdoor courtyard is comfortable and new. All rooms have en suite bathrooms.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.
