BUG review
Captain Bob’s is a well-known and popular Paihia hostel with a great view of the bay from its upstairs balcony and sitting area. It’s located a few minutes’ walk from both the town centre and the Woolworths supermarket. The atmosphere here is on the quieter side, and there’s perhaps less of a warm and friendly vibe from the management as well. Rooms are clean and tidy and the kitchen is fully equipped. The upstairs dining and sitting area are very charming and comfortable, and the view can’t be beat.

We stayed in the bouble on suite room, which was three separte rooms. Small kitchen/ dining room, large shower bathroom, and bedroom from which you could just see the sea! We were also able to use the main kitchen facilities. Very clean for a hostel, had to take your shoes off at the door.

Stayed in Captain Bob's Beachhouse for 3 nights for NZ$80 per night in Dec 2005. Asked to stay in a double ensuite room, we got an apartment, it was the best value for money that we had in NZ. It had bedroom, separate kitchen and a separate bathroom. Its is located across from the beach and it is a 15 minute walk into town. Good washing and drying facilities. We did not use the kitchen. They even booked our Whole in the Rock and Cape Reinga and Ninety Mile Beach tours at no extra cost. They had parking available in the drive way and outside on the road. I would definately stay here again.

Staying at Capn Bob's is like staying in somebody's home! Spotlessly clean. Excellent showers. Within walking distance of the centre of Paihia. You can't get better than this.

Anon from Peru (yukyyuky) must have been in the wrong place, this place was so clean and relaxing on the balcony overlooking the bay, great to watch both sunrise (if your up in time) and sunset.

This place was recommended by other backpackers. My boyfriend and I loved it. It is very close to the beach and has fantastic views. It has a relaxed cosy atmosphere. The manager is friendly and helpful . It is SPOTLESSLY CLEAN and nicely set out so that it feels like home. In common with a lot of people, we initially booked for one night and stayed a lot longer.

I would recommend CapnBob's as a place to relax and get away from the " normal flow" of other backpackers.

It's clean and the manager is very friendly, concerned about your experience, etc.

In short, I'd stay here if going to Paihia
