BUG review
The backpacker part of this motel complex is set in an historic 1891 house. There is a pair of very basic four-bed dorms and a few doubles inside, along with a simple kitchen and TV room. Internet access is available (but expensive, like most places in this area). On a front lawn, picnic tables overlook the Houhora Harbour, which is right down the hill. A general store, bar and café are across the road. Backpackers are able to use the motel facilities, including the swimming pool and trampoline (though a sign says it’s for children only). Sand boards are available for hire.

About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.

We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.
