BUG review
The End of the Road Backpackers is a little cottage with no regular on-site staff. Visitors let themselves in and, if a bed is available, simply stay there. The owner stops in to collect money and perform maintenance. There are two single beds in one room and a double bed in the other. Everything is very basic. A small living room has a TV, there’s a little kitchen, a small dining room table, a few books and that’s about it. One thing the End of the Road does have going for it is a great view over the Matauwhi Bay. It’s an unusual, self-catering situation, which could hold a certain appeal for some.

This was the first place I stayed in NZ on my trip there and the owner, Moana, was so very nice and accommodating. It was reasonably priced, clean and a great place to stay with the view of the little cove all the all boats just outside the deck. And, Russell is much nicer than Pahia as it's quieter and more cozy. So, if you are going to the Northland and need a place to stay, put this high on your list!
