BUG review
Waipu Wanderers is a very small house on a quiet residential street, with just seven beds in three rooms. There’s a living-room common area and small kitchen, and it feels more like staying in someone’s house than in a hostel. A front yard surrounded by a charmingly unkempt garden has a table for outdoor eating and socialising. The owners, who live in a separate house right next door, are friendly and have lots of local information about Waipu; one of them teaches Scottish Country Dance and on Mondays there’s a dance held in the town hall, to which guests at Waipu Wanderers are often invited.

About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.

We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

Hosts, Steve and Elaine Goldthorpe go out of their way to make you feel at home. The rooms are modern and clean. Good ablution facilities. Modern kitchen. An extremely homely atmosphere. A really good place to stay especially for the more matured
