BUG review
This place offers hotel and hostel accommodation in a charming old lodge on the edge of the lake, 21km from Glenorchy. There is a good kitchen and dining area with modern fittings, and a nice garden barbecue area. Dorm rooms are well appointed with duvets, freshly painted walls and new carpet. They have internet access, a barbecue and a hillside spa pool with beautiful mountain views. There are also laundry facilities, a cosy TV lounge with DVDs, log fire and tour bookings. It is a great place to chill out and clean up after a long trek.

My girlfriend and I stayed at Kinloch recently and it was the most unbelievably fantastic experience. Quite a bit off the beaten track, but oh so worth the effort. The location is simply magic and you really feel like you are billion miles from anywhere. Certainly a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of Queenstown. The hostel is absolutely first class, the best I have ever seen and really sets the standard for all hostels. No mean feat considering the location. We will return as we simply could not fathom a better place to recharge and relax. Oh, and I recommend hiring the bikes and cycling up to the start of the Routeburn track. It's a reasonable tough 18km slog (coming back is mostly downhill), but the scenery is breathtaking and the moss like a thick carpet. This part of NZ is truly special and we fell in love with it.

Well done guys, the effort put into this hostel is appreciated !

Would give 6 stars if I could !

This is an amazing hostel! It's over the lake from Glenorchy - a long way round by vehicle, but they operate a regular boat service for a small charge. It's a hotel and quality hostel in one, but with backpackers never being made to feel like second-class citizens. They have a happy-hour in the small bar and the restaurant is (by all accounts) first class. The scenery in the area is stunning and you can do lots of tramping nearby. The Dart River Safari is an excellent trip that picks up directly from the hostel.
