BUG review
The rose bushes leading to the entry of this place give you an idea of what to expect. This lovely house on a huge farm, about 15 minutes south of Twizel, exudes charm. The fully-equipped kitchen is homely and the bathrooms are new and clean. The best part is the common room, with a warm log fire, piano, antiques and photos everywhere; and a nice TV with videos for cold nights. There is a huge dorm in an attached building that has ten or so single made-up beds and a small bathroom. It is a really good place to chill out, with friendly owners and a low-key but convivial atmosphere.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.

Travellers beware:Those who planned for a short visit, may find themselves, staying for much longer time, without the will to leave... Yep, me too - came there for 3 nights, and stayed 3 months!!! I've seen that happen to many others, some of them came back after a while, some were crying when they left. Situated in a farm between Omarama and Twizel (on highway 8), Merino's, Kattle and lovely dogs. Beutifull view, amazing sunsets, and it's close to several atractions: Mt. Cook National Park - 80kmLake Ohau (Sjyfield) - 30kmLake Benmore - 25kmAhuriri Vally - 30kmClay Cliffs - 15kmThere is also an option to go just behind the backyard and climb up to 1300 meters, and observe all of these places from high above...The hostel itself is homely and cosy. Big double/twin rooms. Self contained dormitory - 10 beds, NO BUNKS, private shower/toilet and plenty of space.During the high season, (between december and april) it is recommended to book a few days ahead.

The hostel is very lovely, the setting is most superb, and the sky is just ASTOUNDING! You will have never seen such a night sky! I an astronomer, and I have experienced the greatest observatory sites on the planet much, but I don't recall night as magnificent as the ones I saw as staying at the Buscot. Tony is the nicest hostel keeper in the world! But it rather spoiled my other stay at other hostels :-)
