BUG review
This is a very well maintained hostel with a good atmosphere. Dorms are spacious with wooden bunks, new clean sheets and central heating, but you have to pay extra for duvets. There is a good kitchen and dining area, and a huge common room with sofas and bean bags. There is a small shop and café at reception, where you can buy expensive groceries and rent movies (but there is no TV). Facilities are all nice and clean and they offer laundry facilities and internet access.

The staff go out of their way to help, everything is well maintained and clean. There is a courtesy bus to a hotel/dining room they own, as the hostel is a small walk from the harbour.
Pros:
The great scenery
Cons:
Small kitchen cold at night

We stayed here in Dec 06. We booked months in advance and could only get a 4 bed dorm as the rest had already been booked as it is the only place to stay. The room was clean and basic but cold at night. The lounge area was large and comfortable with a piano! But the kitchen was on the small side. The shower facilities were fine, but take a torch as the hostel is on a generater and shuts off at 11pm though they did say they are trying to connect to mains electicity.Would recomend staying here as one day is not enough to relax in this amazing scenery.
Location, location, it just doesn't get much better than this!! 19 April 2007
Pros:
Beautiful scenery surrounding the hostel!
Cons:
Have to walk outside to get to the toilets, cold at night =)

Make sure you book early if you want what you are looking for, I though I was early (6 weeks before) and wanted to book a double room. Was a bit late and ended up with a twinroom.Still though, the room was spotless and came with free towels, and after moving the beds together we had a king sized bed Kitchen, dining room and lounge areas are great and spacious. Toilets and showers must be among the best ones we've encountered, and there are lots of them as well. The scenery is what makes this place though, where else are you surrounded by mountains, rivers and a sound. Make yourself a favor and don't just come here for a quick boat tour, stay a day or two and just relax in this beautiful place!
Pros:
great facilities & accommodation
Cons:
small kitchen for so many people...

I really loved this place! It is surrounded by mountains and beautiful forests. The facilities were really good and clean, especially the bathrooms which look like they are recently renovated. The kitchen was clean, but small for so many guests - but everyone shared and chatted. It had a really nice atmosphere. I recommend this place to anyone staying in Milford Sound area.
A must stay if you are going to stay in Milford Sound... 14 January 2006

A nice place, there were 2 of us staying and we were put in a 4 bed dorm, but for the 3 nights, no one else came in and so we had the room to ourselves which was nice. The kicthen was too small, but it had a nice lounge area and a little shop for bread, pasta, milk etc. There is a great showeroom with huge great showers. There is a great spot out the back where people with camper vans go by the river which is just stunning, which also no one seemed to know about.

Was staying in a double bed. The room is great! and the Milford Sound scenery is just amazing. You need to spend 2-3 days to appreciate it. The shower room is great - they're huge! What is not so good is the kitchen. Simply too small for the amount of guest staying. Trying to cook dinner there is a struggle. Maybe should just take the pizza delivery or eat at the township (They have shuttle). It's the only hostel in Milford Sound - so not many choice there

Being an out door person, this is the sort of place to be. Yes it does still need some work on it. But the Guys-Mike and Dave and co- are doing a serious job of that. The place is friendly and comfortable. The activities great and if you can stand the sandflies, you'll love it. The food is good and if it's not for you- cook your own! Hope you enjoy it too

I went to New Zealand with some friends and stayed at Milford Lodge. It may not be the most up market place in New Zealand but the hospotality and food there is great. You have to try the Pizzas!!!! It has been taken over in the last 3 yrs and they are fixing the place up so you may think that it doesn't look exciting but they have just put in a new toilet and shower block and that looks fantastic. I only stayed 2 nights but if you really want to enjoy the walks you really need more time. but over all the milford lodge and the managers Dave and Jen are great!!!!!!!
