BUG review
Taranaki Accommodation Lodge is a dreadful hostel with a depressing institutional feel and many of the fittings and furnishings are old and worn. Facilties include a lounge with a pool table and table tennis, a kitchen and a TV lounge with old ratty sofas. It is a dilapidated former nurses' home dating from the 1950s with accommodation in mostly double and twin rooms with limp sagging mattresses, although there are a couple of small dorms.

The owners of this hostel are amazing. They offer a free shuttle to Mt. Taranaki. My friend and I ended up 21 kms away in Ingelwood after a day of hiking (long story), and they willingly drove there to pick us up afterwards! I've never had hostel owners go out of their way like that before. The hostel is quite large (and very clean), with a nice sized kitchen. I had a great stay here, and strongly recommend it.

This is a large quality building with lots of atmosphere in an old fashioned sense being an ex nurses home from around the 1930s. It is close to town, has an excellent large kitchen , tv room and lounge, swimming pool and great views of the mountain. Chris the manager is a very friendly and helpful guy. I can't wait to go back and stay longer.
