BUG review
Cathedral Cove is part of the Hahei Holiday Resort; the hostel has been in operation since 1960. The large grounds have tent and campervan sites as well as stand-alone villas and studios, and lead directly down to the beach. Guests can walk to 500m of beachfront without having to cross the road. Dorm accommodation varies – some rooms are in an older house and are clean but a little worn; newer annexes are in better shape. There’s a big TV in a common room with old furniture. The Stray Bus stops here frequently, so there are often large groups of backpackers travelling together staying here.

I stayed here with the Stray bus, but would not recommend it. The price was in line with what most hostels charged, but the facilities were so much worse. The rooms were not terrible, but otherwise the facilities consisted of 2 single bathrooms (so only 2 people could wash, shower, or go to toilet at any time), and otherwise one small kitchen with little by way of equipment and not even a TV or anything. Best avoided.
