BUG review
Taupo Urban Retreat is a clean and modern place with a social atmosphere. It’s not exactly clear where the hostel ends and the lively bar – billed as the cheapest in town – begins. The reception, the large common/dining area and the grassy front yard all overlap with the bar. Four-bed en suite rooms are comfy and some feature a pretty good view of the lake. There is one 18-bed dorm in a separate, high-ceilinged extension; it feels spacious and airy, but still, that is a lot of beds for one room. Security features are good, including lockers for all the beds. Free use of a nearby gym is included, maybe to sweat out those cheap drinks.

We stayed in a couble private room for one night---had a nice king bed (well two twins put together) and good sized bathroom, although could have been cleaner.
