BUG review
Gateway Backpackers is made up of a pair of houses directly behind the Thames information centre. It’s not much to look at – rooms are basic and bedding seemed old. Kitchen facilities were adequate, but the TV room looked frozen in time from the 1970s. There’s a little courtyard around a feijoa tree with a barbecue with picnic tables and a badminton net in the yard. Internet access is available on a coin-operated terminal. Guests have free use of bikes and free laundry, both nice touches, and you can’t beat the location if you’re getting off the bus and don’t want to walk anywhere.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.
