BUG review
Riverstone is a relatively new “boutique” backpackers’ hostel close to the town centre. Everything is well designed and carefully thought out inside this renovated house, which can hold up to 20 guests. A very comfy TV lounge has a wood fire. The kitchen is excellent, with nice appliances and sharp knives. Rooms feature real mattresses and quality bedding. Outside, there’s a peaceful garden and sundeck decorated with lanterns and Tibetan prayer flags (an outdoor fireplace and wood-burning pizza oven were being added when we visited). There are also good facilities for all the sports activities Turangi has on offer – a drying room for all that wet skiing and fishing gear, an outdoor fish-cleaning area, even a fish smoker. The owner is an excellent source of local information, as well.

About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.

We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.
