BUG review
Baywatch Backpackers is part of a motel that has some units converted to dorms. Rooms have en suite bathrooms, and there’s a small common room/kitchen/dining area. The location is good, right across the road from Mercury Bay, but there’s not much in the way of facilities or atmosphere here. A small barbecue area occupies a little patch of grass, but otherwise there’s a concrete car-park ambience to the place. The Anchorage Motel on the same property has doubles and self-contained units with kitchenettes and TVs. Internet access and Wi-Fi are available.

I've been to Whitianga several times, staying at the Anchorage Motel, the forerunner to Baywatch Backpackers before the latter was developed. Always a good place to stay, well looked after by hospitable hosts Kristin and Torben.

Mercury Bay is just across the road and there's easy access to the beautiful local attractions, like Whitianga Rock, Hahei, Hot Water beach, Cathedral Cove, etc.

A beautiful part of the world - take your camera!

The Baywatch Backpackers has great views out into Mercury Bay. It is situated right across the road from the beach and very close to the town centre. I stayed here a few times during my journey through New Zealand. I definitely enjoyed staying at the Baywatch Backpackers. The place is very clean, comfortable and quiet. The facilities provided are very good and there is plenty of parking available. I can really recommend this place.
