BUG review
This hostel in an old restored pub has a great aquatic theme throughout. The dorms have single made-up beds and guests are supplied with towels and soap. There is a bright clean kitchen and newly renovated bathrooms with bubble bath and a nice outdoor barbecue area with a spa pool. There is also internet access, a pool table, free tea and coffee and every day around 4pm they get the unsold items from the bakery and offer them to guests.

Price Dorm bed $20-23 Single room $40-43 Double/twin room $50-56 Triple room $66-75 Prices are in New Zealand dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.
I only stayed there 1 night but the hostel is really nice: the dorms are spacious, the beds very comfortable and there are no bunks.
The communal area is great, with darts, pool table, TV, books and magazines...There's everything you need to cook in the kitchen. The only bad point is that I stayed there in winter and it was freezing. You need to put the heating on if you are cold and it takes some time to get warmer. But apart from that, GREAT place to stay.
Pros:
Large spacious rooms - all of them

Wonderful large rooms, dorms, twins and doubles. We were lucky enough to get the only room with a TV (a double) which made a difference to us. Everything here is kept spotlessly clean and the owners are so friendly and helpful. Free pool, darts. Hot tub in the yard. Free tea and coffee.A good place to relax for a couple of days.

Historic hotel that Craig and Kat have transformed into a top B&B; who are extremely helpful and welcoming. The atmosphere and feel of the place is welcoming.A real sense of west coast hospitality in a historic position in a very historic W.C. town.Value for money paricularly when you compare their rates to hotels and motels around the country. It must be wonderful in Winter when it could be cold and wet to use as a base. Recommend if you are there on a Sunday do the Monthieth's Brewery tour at 6 pm which includes the Railway Hotel BBQue. Craig and Kat. are wonderful hosts. give them my regards

This is an excellent hostel, and one of the two best I've stayed at in NZ. The rooms are hotel standard with huge amounts of space, comfortable mattresses and warm duvets. (One dorm is the old hotel bar, complete with bar counter). There are no bunks here. The decor is sea themed throughout. There's a large living space with magazines, books, Sky TV, open fire, two net terminals and a free pool table, and a large and well stocked kitchen with free herbs in a windowbox outside ( although they all taste of basil). All shared facilities are spotless - and they have real baths as well as showers!Free spa pool as well. Owners are excellent, and will drop you off/pick you up at the train station etc as required. Hostel is situated near the town centre and just across the road from the river. Greymouth isn't the most exciting of places, but if you're staying there, stay at Neptunes. Excellent.

Absolutely superb hostel run by two of the most helpful and friendly people I've met on my travels. Rooms (no bunks) are warm and comfortable, and decorated in a fishy theme. It's located about 5-10 minutes from the train station, and a couple of minutes walk from the Tourist info, cinema and supermarket. Large, well-equipped (and heated!) kitchen, big Lounge with a fire and a couple of Internet terminals, pool tables, games, ironing board etc. Hot tub and cute covered smokers area outside. Can't rate this place too highly. Excellent.I can't

As far as hostels go this place was luxurious. The beds were all singles, so no climbing up onto bunks for a change, and it is the only hostel I have stayed in which had a bath! Sheer heaven for the weary backpacker. Good facilities too, such as kitchen, common room with pool, etc, and they'll even give you a hot water bottle if you are cold. Quality hospitality, and very good value too.
