BUG review
Bazil’s Hostel is an old complex with plenty of dormitory accommodation. The kitchen and common areas are not very well maintained and have outdated furniture and fittings; although the dorms are nice, with new bunks, made-up beds and new carpet. Amenities include laundry, internet access (including Wi-Fi) and a barbecue. Conviviality fluctuates, as Westport is not a usual destination unless there is a festival or event in the region. Security is poor for a YHA, but staff are very warm and friendly.
About BUG's hostel reviews
This hostel was visited by one of BUG's team of hostel inspectors who write independent reviews and assess a star rating based on an objective assessment criteria.
We show up unannounced at hostels to write honest and unbiased hostel reviews. Many of BUG's reviews now feature videos and photo slideshows. BUG never receives payment for listing any establishment and BUG's researchers never accept free accommodation in exchange for favourable reviews.

Bazils is one of the best hostels I've stayed at in New Zealand. Very friendly and laid back. The staff were informative and helpful. The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean. Excellent facilities all round
