BUG Review
Canberra City YHA is a big well-appointed and centrally located hostel. It has a lot of facilities including a basic kitchen (no oven), a café with internet access including Wi-Fi ($6 per hour, YHA Connect), an indoor swimming pool, spa pool and a sauna. There are several quiet lounge areas throughout the hostel plus a lounge upstairs with a TV, pool table and table football. There's also a really nice rooftop deck with barbecues, but unfortunately alcohol is only allowed in the kitchen so you won't get a chance to really enjoy the rooftop area. The hostel is clean with not too much atmosphere - just like Canberra - and this isn't helped by the TVs in the dormitories (which keeps people away from the common areas).

Price
Dorm bed $28-33.50 ($25-30 HI/YHA)

Prices are in Australian dollars and are inclusive of all taxes.

Can't complain, February 24, 2009

Pros: Modern
Cons: Could do with a bit of a clean

I have to admit, I wasn't looking forward to staying in this hostel, I thought it was going to be a very dull and boring week, a)because it was in Canberra, and b)because it was a YHA, But I was pleasantly surprised. It had a great atmosphere, and strangely enough a strong party vibe (something I was not expecting from a YHA or Canberra) The facilities are pretty good, a neat balcony, good common areas and a not too bad kitchen. It also has a dodgy little pool. The location is great. Walking distance from the bus terminal, and in the centre of the "city". For a YHA hostel, this place is excellent.

If your going to Canberra then I would recommend staying here although there is a lack of atmosphere this could be a result of Canberra not being a very lively place. Its as if they built a great city but forgot to put any people in it.

Excellent hostel but a parking nightmare, December 29, 2006

As with a lot of YHAs, this place was in good condition but was lacking in atmosphere. There was also no parking available and finding free parking nearby was difficult (I was lucky that I was there at a weekend when several car parks are free - not sure if you could avoid paying during the week). The hostel's location is good from the point of view of proximity to the city centre, and you can walk to all the major places of interest without massively exerting yourself. I'd stay here again.
