BUG Review
This hostel is the perfect place for surfers, since it has private access via a sandy path to Main Beach. It is an open, airy complex of palm trees, hammocks and outdoor common areas. The colourful dorms are well-kept and clean, and the kitchen is bright and well stocked, though the bathrooms are a bit lacking with maintenance. There is a swimming pool and a beach volleyball court, and they offer free body boards and bikes. It has a mellow vibe to it, with very friendly staff.

We stayed at the Backpckers Inn in Byron Bay for three days and on the whole had an enjoyable time. We were given free entry into local pubs and free drinks on arrival. The staff were friendly and fairly helpful but felt reserved and could have given us more advice on places to visit etc. On the Saturday night they hosted a bbq with a huge bonfire which was a welcome respite from the winter cold! This was really nice as we got to meet a lot of other people and ended up going out to the town and having a really awesome time. Apparently they do these sort of things often. It's about a 50m walk to the beach over the sand dunes so that is a definite positive! However there are aspects that could be improved such as cleanliness and appearance. The rooms were quite dark and cold and felt a bit institutional. On the whole not to bad at all.

this hostel was great, not too pricey and the rooms are all 4 bed and are massive with lockers in for your valubles. good atmosphere (there was fire dancing one night and a 5 dollar bbq the other) good large kitchen although you have to pay a deposit for utensils but plenty of fridge space.. had a great time here, 5 mins walk into town and right on neach so everyone partys all night there!!!

This place is far too overpriced! As is Byron Bay itself I guess! The toilets and showers were dirty and about a lengthy walk from the room. The staff were rude and not at all helpfull - especially this one bitter english guy. The blinds were see-through - so forget privacy! And when we mentioned it to the staff we were pretty much told they didn't care! For the amount we were paying they definately should of cared! Oh and one dorm had 14 people and no air-conditioning in the height of summer! Byron is a great party place if you have a stacked wallet. otherwise it's just a beach - and not a fantastic one. Skip it I say and definately skip this hostel!!! :glare:

Wasn't mad about this hostel at all. Found it too big. The security wasn't great, anyone could walk in. Facilities were ok. The night we stayed there the people in the room below us we fighting and shouting all night. They had broken holes in the door of their room and broken all the trees in the courtyard?? So didn't have a great nights sleep. Just had to put up with it until the manager arrived in the morning and threw them out.

Located 5 mins walk from most bars and 2 mins from the beach. This place had a nice clean double, with own bathroom. Prices were average for a double on the east coast. Kitchen was big but come the end of breakfast it was a disgrace and got worse through the day until it was cleaned the next morning. The only other thing is that people seem to appear from everywhere and what initially looks like a small hostel has loads of rooms!

I stayed at the inn for about 2 weeks and all i have to say is it is friendly, good location right on the beach... short walk to town which is good for working off all that beer from the night before. It also has a travel agency in the building which is really handy and the kitchen is really nice (could use another fridge though) i had a good time staying here.

This backpackers was such a disappointment. I didn't mind the 10-minute walk to town, but the reception staff were not very friendly, the rooms dark and the beds were absolutely horrible! I've never had such a stiff neck and back! There is only 1 bathroom/shower per floor per side and the partier noise is awful late at night. This place was full of 20-year-olds that howled when drunk. I will give it a good rating for the BBQ (delicious veggie burgers) and the access to the beach is great, even if the walk to it cripples you.

Nice but a bit rocky footpath from the yard to the quiet beach. Lots of clams to pick from the sand. Put them into hot water in a pan, rinse to remove sand, open their shell, moving them into a baking tray, put some mayo, bake in the oven. Voila, u got nice free snack courtesy of the hostel's well-equipped kitchen. Somebody took my half-full tagged bottle of milk, which is a bit annoying. A case of extreme hunger or racism? Big common room and yard with tables to just relax or mingle with other guests. Short walk to town, free bikes to explore the area. Ride the bike to the lighthouse, stop by for ice cream (friendly vendor), then walk along the footpaths for nice views of the sea and hang-gliders. Check out Cheeky Monkey by getting meal vouchers from the hostel reception. Cheap meals, nice place. We went there on a Friday night and had $2 meals. Recommended. Stayed at the big double room closest to the yard. Nice comfy double bed. Overall nice atmosphere, nice location, good facilities, staff courtesy OK but could be better.

Loved this place! Clean, awesome, laid-back, tropical atmosphere. Nice quiet beach. Great BBQ area, kitchen facilities and lounge area! We were a group of 8 and our bookings for another hostel didn't go through so we roamed around town and were thankful to come upon this hostel which surprisingly had room for all of us! It's probably not as popular as the other hostels since it's a little further from town, but it's really only a short walk away and totally worth it! The best hostel I've ever been to so far!

Backpackers Inn on the Beach is a very good hostel. It is clean, the rooms are nice and the central recreation area is excellent for meeting and mingling with fellow backpackers. The weekly BBQs and gatherings are also fun. The beach is only a short 2 minute walk out the back of the hostel and the town center is only about a 10 minute walk. They also offer shuttle service to town if you prefer. One of the best hostels I stayed at during my trip down the east coast!
