BUG Review
This clean, purpose-built hostel is located in town centre and has loads of shops surrounding it. The simple, comfortable dorms circle a huge heated swimming pool with palm trees and a barbecue and the bathrooms are all shiny new white tile. There is a TV lounge with a large screen and rows of nice leather couches, which doubles as a reading room during the day. Reception staff are nice, and internet costs $3 per hour. There is a café and a dive centre on site. The atmosphere is just right – not too quiet, but not too rowdy, either.

Though the place didn't have a great deal of character, it was in a good location and all the facilities were fine. I also met some interesting people here. Nothing particularly brilliant or dismal about it - I'd stay here again.

Overpriced, basic accommodation., February 18, 2006

We stayed 1 night in this hostel, so can't really say what the daytime atmosphere is like. Our double room had a bed and a fan. Talk about basic. Dorm rooms looked cramped by the time you had 2 bunk beds, 4 backpackers and their rucksacks in there. Most of them left their doors open at night - possibly to get some air in there. Picked us up from the bus station and dropped us off again the next morning. Just a bit of a shock for 100 dollars a night for a double, but I guess that's just Byron Bay for you - overpriced.

I stayed here for 6 nights and I was very impressed with this hostel. It was very clean. I thought it was very well run. Myself and my boyfriend stayed in a 5 bed dorm. it was cleaned daily and we met some great people. The hostel is also situated in an excellent loation.

This hostel was not only overpriced, but it was cramped and it smelt revolting- it was some kind of carpet cleaner they'd used. It lingered in my clothes the entire stay. The window was tiny, also (no ventilation). And on one occasion I was walked in on while getting changed by one of the employees. Very unimpressed.

i stayed here in february. this place is heavily over priced and the dorms are hot and cramped. the location isn't too bad although there were plenty of hostels nearer the centre. i met many other guests who didn't like this hostel. the idea is that it is quiet after 11pm but there were tosspots who thought they were bob marley who were up singing until well after 4am every night. the staff were helpful and friendly, unfortunately the majority of guests couldn't manage this.

Very clean, purpose-built hostel. It has an excellent swimming-pool, as are the rest of the facilities, including the kitchen. It is well located, and nothing is too far a walk. There are lots of deposits to pay for use of facillities, for keys, bikes, and dishware to eat with. The staff are very friendly. The rooms are very standard, and the overall atmosphere is quiet, but I felt it wasn't quite enough to shell out 25$ a night for (one of the most expensive ones that I stayed at).

Our stay here was superb- the many cliches put around about YHAs are not evident here. The hostel is well organised without introducing too many rules. There's a great atmosphere, well balanced between being lively and relaxed- we met a lot of people. The kitchen and dining areas are excellent and there's a nice pool in the middle. The location is good - only a 5 min walk to the beach. You can also borrow bikes- which are genuinely free, and almost brand new- and go to the lighthouse for dolphin and/or whale spotting at the right time of year. The staff are really friendly and helpful - the best I have seen in any hostel in Aus.
